The senior superintendent officer who is suspected of being involved in the case Seungri, Jung Joon Young, and other celebrities, has been removed from his position.

The National Police Agency revealed on March 16 that senior superintendent officer “A” has been removed from this position and temporarily been placed under the police affairs department while the investigation is underway. His replacement has already been named.

This comes after allegations of abuse of power emerged from the conversations that were shared in the chatroom that included Seungri, Jung Joon Young, and others. According to the police, in text messages exchanged in July 2016, one participant stated, “The business next to ours took photos inside our business, but the head of the police told us not to worry.” According to the National Police Agency, the person had incorrectly named the title of the position, and senior superintendent officer “A” has been identified as the figure being discussed.

“A” is said to have worked at the Gangnam Police Station in 2015 as the chief of the public security division. He was then promoted to a senior superintendent position in 2016 and in the following year, worked in the Blue House as well.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency summoned “A” to be questioned as a witness. After the questioning, “A” told reporters as he was leaving, “I believe I have caused an inconvenience to the organization,” and “I don’t know Jung Joon Young. Everything will be revealed later.”
