G-Dragon Considers Mom His First Fashion Stylist

G-Dragon attends the Chanel Haute Couture Spring Summer 2017 show as part of Paris Fashion Week on January 24, 2017 in Paris, France.

Fashion icon G-Dragon revealed how his mother influenced his fashion style as he launched his fashion line PEACEMINUSONE in Paris.

BIGBANG leader and global fashion icon G-Dragon credited his mother for making him fashionable ever since he was a kid.

G-Dragon talked about his fashionable mother in a recent interview during the European launch of his brand fashion brand PEACEMINUSONE at Paris Fashion Week last month.

“I started out as a child actor. Back then, I didn’t have a manager or company and I couldn’t even dream of having a stylist,” Koreaboo quoted the 28-year-old Hallyu star as saying in the interview.

“My mom made and bought the clothes I would wear,” he continued. “I think that was probably when I first got into fashion? Interestingly, when I look at pictures of me when I was five or six years old, I think I look pretty stylish.”

The Korean idol who reportedly caused a tagging frenzy at last month’s Chanel’s Couture show and wore a furry Chanel trapper hat with Chanel brooches on his navy suit also shared some fashion tips for his millions of followers.

“There are times even I am a bit embarrassed by my look,” said G-Dragon. “Don’t be afraid. There is no right answer in fashion.”

According to all K-pop, some of G-Dragon’s eccentric styles that only he can pull off include the outrageous look of a half-biker and half-gypsy, sexy librarian, an outlaw chef, wandering vagrant, confused hobo, gold member and red racer.

The pop star, who opened his fashion line PEACEMINUSONE at London’s Dover Street Market two months ago, described the European fashion style as “chic,” “consistent” and “classic with its own color” while he thought the Korean fashion was more trend-conscious.

The high-end clothing line was shrouded with several controversies as netizens criticized the brand for its alleged misogynistic labels, ridiculously high prices, alleged rip-off designs and the way it’s been marketed using the English language instead of Korean.

Korean Music Charts Will No Longer Support Midnight Music Releases

New changes in Korean music charts will be affecting midnight music releases.

February 15, according to various industry insiders, the major Korean music sites — Melon, Bugs, Genie, Mnet, Soribada, Naver Music, Monkey3 — will be undergoing a reform in how their charts are managed. Namely, songs released at midnight will not enter charts until the following afternoon at 1 p.m.

Only performance of songs released between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. will immediately be reflected in real-time charts. Performance of any songs released outside of this window will show in music charts the following afternoon. This will hold true for both weekdays and weekends.

Midnight is a target release time for many artists. Because of the late hour, there are fewer users online, so when fans gather for a release, it’s comparatively easier for artists to hit No. 1 on the charts, achieve an all-kill, or even line up their songs on a single chart.

This issue surrounding midnight releases has been consistently brought up within the industry for some time. With these new changes, music sites aim to maintain fair rankings and prevent sudden waves of changes in the charts, as well as prevent alleged “sajaegi” (when companies buy their artists’ albums to chart high).

In the event that an artist takes over the top spots of a chart with a midnight release, it has an effect on the rankings the next morning, as well, causing a hindrance to fair competition. The fact that technical issues in the morning cannot be handled immediately also poses an issue to continued midnight releases.

Though the Ministry of Culture has pushed various measures in the past to maintain fairness in the music industry, such as improvements in real-time charts and removing song recommendations within charts, they haven’t always worked.

An industry source stated, “We hope that everyone will participate in this movement for a more healthy industry. However, we’ve already experienced back-and-forth with midnight releases being discontinued and then coming back. We need a more rational solution.”

The changes outlined above, if implemented quickly, will take place at the end of this month.
