[News] Court confirms sentence of 10 months suspended for 2 years for T.O.P

T.O.P is at the Court Hearing today, has stopped to briefly face the reporters and has apologized again.

Official Sentence: T.O.P 10 months in prison on probation, suspended 24 months. T.O.P apologized again saying he is sincerely reflecting.
The court hence kept the sentence demanded by prosecution. There will be no jail if TOP does not violate parole within these 2 years.

He was also fined 12.000 WON as requested by prosecution. The fine is calculated based on the buying cost of the narcotic and possible related equipment involved in a case.

The Court has acknowledged that T.O.P pleaded guilty of all charges, that he has apologized and is reflecting on his actions. They also considered that it is his first offence.

Following the outcome of his trial, T.O.P will go through a Police disciplinary review by the Seoul Police Headquarter to determine if he is suitable to carry on his duty as a conscripted police officer.

If he is deemed unfit to serve as a conscripted police officer, he will serve his army duty as a social worker, however the article also states that this is regarded as highly unlikely and the article states that T.O.P will most likely resume with active military service (meaning serving as a policeman in his case).

NOTE: As previously reported T.O.P can continue his military service of 520 remaining days since his charge is below the 18-months threshold.

Background information on sentence:

According to this article the Judge has decided to keep the demand by prosecution and give T.O.P the sentence of 10 months suspended for two years because:

“crimes regarding narcotics not only impair physical and mental well-being of the individual but causes serious harm to society as a whole.”

This in respect to T.O.P being a public (famous) person and a role model for society has led the Court to be in agreement with the demand of the prosecution. Hence their demand was confirmed in the final sentencing.

T.O.P will not appeal this decision.

T.O.P spoke to the press and released an apology statement for everyone after being embroiled in an illegal marijuana use controversy. 

“I am highly sorry over my actions. I am deeply reflecting over and over again. The only thing I can say to everyone is that I am very sorry. Other than that, I have nothing more to say.”

T.O.P also spoke about his sentencing and said he has no plans of appealing the sentencing yet. 

“I currently have no plans to fight the sentencing with an appeal. I will face the charges given to me by the court.”
