T.O.P’s charity art auction sales surpass $17 million

A charity auction of an art collection curated by BIGBANG‘s T.O.P with Sotheby‘s impressed many by raising 135,875,000 Hong Kong dollars (approximately $17.5 million USD including the buyer’s premium). The original estimate for the sale was 90 million Hong Kong Dollars (approximately $11 million USD).

The auction, titled #TTTOP, took place on the evening of October 3 in Hong Kong. The collection of arts celebrated new and famous artists all across Asia and the Western world.

Featuring over 25 lots of contemporary artworks, the selected arts not only showcased T.O.P’s artistic taste, but also brought attention to the young Asian collecting community.

The highlight of the sale was Lot #623, Jean-Michel Basquiat‘s painting ‘Infantry‘ which had an estimate of 30 to 40 million Hong Kong Dollars ($3.8 million to 5.15 million USD) and sold for 46.68 million Hong Kong Dollars (approximately $6 million USD).

The auction benefits the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) to provide opportunities to emerging Asian artists.
